La mayoría de europeos pagaría más por usar plásticos biodegradables

Un reciente informe de la Comisión Europea concluye que un 57% de europeos pagarían un poco más de su bolsillo por utilizar bioplásticos.
Así se desprende del informe [1] Europeans and Biotechnology in 2005: Patterns and Trends del pasado mes de mayo. En general la sensibilización de la opinión pública acerca de la Biotecnología ha mejorado en Europa según los autores del estudio. Por ejemplo, en relación a la Biotecnología industrial el estudio concluye: “Industrial applications of biotechnology in bio-fuels, bio-plastics and bio-plants for pharmaceuticals are widely supported in Europe, with people agreeing on incentives to develop bio-fuels and plastics. More people than not say they would pay more for a vehicle that runs on bio-fuels and pay more for bioplastics. Around six in ten approve of bio-plants providing that they are tightly regulated and across the EU those approving bio-plants outnumber those who disapprove in all but Austria.”
En algunos blogs se ha recogido este informe, como es el caso del de [2] Stephen Pincock con su post More Europeans back biotech. Parece pues que vamos avanzando en Europa en el reconocimiento social de la Biotecnología. Quizá algunos productos biotecnológicos sean, al principio, más caros que los tradicionales; pero lo que hay que computar es el coste global de seguir utilizando plàsticos no degradables que llenan de residuos los campos y paisajes. Yo también prefiero pagar un poco más por una bolsa del supermercado biodegradable! No quiero encontrarmela luego cuando me bañe en el mar durante las vacaciones…
